I never really got that, though, why having an ego is such a bad thing. Isn't that what you told me the first time we talked? Something like "It's okay to be arrogant if you're smart"?

It's not really ego you have to worry about, it's hubris. Pride in what you're capable of isn't bad, just when you let that pride detach you from reality. Be arrogant if you want, but don't let it blind you. [SAGE ADVICE FROM A FORMER ROBIN. He's done this. :\]

It's from ancient Greece, it's usually taught as extreme haughtiness - in a lot of Greek stories, a character with hubris will challenge the gods, or their laws, and that will lead to their fall. It's pride so acute that you let it blind you. [He has been guilty of this. :c]
